About Siem Reap City

Siem Reap Province is located in northwest Cambodia. It is the major tourist site in Cambodia, as it is the closest city to the world famous temples of Angkor ( World Heritage). The provincial capital is also called Siem Reap and is located in the south of the province on the shores of the Tonle Sap lake. The greatest sweet in Southeast Asia. Siem Reap province is a cradle of Angkorian civilization.

Geography

Siem Reap has a total area of 10,299km2 (3,976.5 sq miles) it is big and definitely one of the most famous one in Cambodia. It’s located in the northwest of the country bordering to the north of Oddor Meanchey, to the east of Preah Vihear and Kompong Thom to the west of Banteay Meanchey and south of the biggest sweet water in Southeast Asia. A huge Tonle Sap lake.

Economic

Businesses centered on tourism have flourished thanks to tourism boom. There is a wide range of Hotels. Ranging from several 5-star hotels and chic  resorts to hundreds of guesthouses. A large selection of restaurants offers many kinds of food. Including Italian, Indian, French, German, Russian, Thai, Korean, Japanes and Burmese, Plenty of shopping opportunities exist around the Phsar Chas area while the nightlife is often vibrant with a number of western-styled pubs and bars.

Siem Reap International Airport

Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport now serves the most tourist passengers to Cambodia. Most tourists come to Siem Reap to visit Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom (about 7km north of the city), and other temples while those are still the main attractions, there are plenty of other things to experiences such as dinner with an Apsara Dance performance a trip to fishing village and bird sanctuary, a visit to a craft workshop and silk farm, or a bicycle tour around the rice paddies in the countryside.

The Gecko Environmental Center is a floating environment center located in the province of Siem Reap on the Tonle Sap lake. The goal of the center is to promote environmental awareness among the local community as well as visitors to the great lake.

 

How to get there

Siem Reap province is 314km distance from Phnom Penh Getting to Siem Reap is easy, as the city is well connected by airplane bus and boat.

By air

Getting to Siem Reap by air is convenient way as many international destinations operate flights to the city. Seoul, Laos, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Taiwan, Bangkok, Vietnam, etc…

Have direct flights to and from Siem Reap.

 

 

By road

One can get to Siem Reap through land also. One can reached to the city from Bangkok via Aranyaprathey/poipet border crossings. You can also travel to Siem Reap from Phnom Penh by bus via/ through National road 6. it takes 5-6 hours for this traveling.

By Boat

Getting to Siem Reap by ferry services is another notable option.  Through the way of Tonle Sap lake, one can reach the city form Phnom Penh and Battambang city.

Shopping in Siem Reap

Siem Reap is an excellent place to buy Cambodian souvenirs handicrafts, textiles and art, only Phnom Penh offers comparable selection, but much of what is available in Siem Reap is unique.

Phsar Chas

Phsar Chas is located in the south of Siem Reap, close to Siem Reap river. It’s a big storeroom containing several small stalls and shops. It’s a good place for shopping, and you will find all kind of goods there such as souvenirs , silk, clothes. Etc…

Angkor Trade Center

The Angkor Trade center is small, but modern air-conditioned shopping mall with escalator a super market shops (clothing, cosmetics, perfumes, jewelry, souvenirs, accessories, electronic and IT product). Beauty salon, and food court (including the western good other food) Pizza, swensen’s and Blue Pumpkin) it is need from 9am to 9pm daily.

Lucky Mall

Lucky Mall is situated on Sivatha Boulevard. It is also a shopping mall with escalator. Super market at ground floor has all kind of goods. Fast foods shop, beverage shop ( lucky burger and luck coffee located in first floor).

Where to eat in Siem Reap

There is now shortage of restaurants in Siem Reap. Siem Reap offers an excellent variety of restaurants there are also plenty of moderately priced Cambodian and international restaurants almost of restaurants offers Khmer food, Jananese  etc….

For the budget minded, check out the inexpensive Chinese places at the south end of Sivatha Blvd, or the local food stalls and noodle cook shops next to Phsar Chas (old market) .
